Even now, even thinking about her makes me cry. How it ripples through the family and ends up hurting everyone in a way. It is a story about generational trauma in a way. His loyalty and determination to get what he dreamt about for years, only to change curse in a heartbeat for Isolde. This book added depth to Saint and how they built themselves up from poor fishing boys to what we know from the other books. (and the little nugget about West, I loved it) Maybe it’s just me, but I was dying to learn more about Isolde from the beginning and when I realized that this book is half of her POV, I screamed. This prequel lived up to the original duology and stepped it up. And Isolde is the beating heart of both Saint and the Narrows. It’s probably the hardest review I have ever written because this series really has me with the feels™. Genres: young adult, fantasy, adventure, romance Saint (The World of the Narrows #0.5) by Adrienne Young I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. I don’t know, it was alright, but I wasn’t as much of a fan of this as the previous books in this series. I’m not one of these people so it left me feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of random characters showing up to save the day. Which I guess is fine if someone read the previous books, and therefore cares about these characters. What I thought was the most elegant separation from the previous series was completely undone here and characters from there owned this book, to the point that Ronan and Reyna had about 5 chapters out of 32 for themselves. I feel like this book was a mess in the sense that it had way too many players for such few pages and the point just got lost somewhere. In all honesty, I can’t decide if I read this at the wrong time/with not the right headspace or what. They were the only reason I kept skimming as the other characters were either forgettable or a little irritating.Īs always, a big thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for the ARC.Ĭourt of Death and Dreams (The Forsaken #3) by Meg Anne I really liked Ina and Skedi as characters, and their whole plot line though. For a long while I felt like I was reading in Elvish or studying for an exam, until it switched around midway, but by that time I was skimming the chapters. The plot itself and the portrayal of the gods was good and the reason I still gave this 3 stars, the writing/prose on the other hand made it a really painful experience for me. I really wanted to love this and was so excited when I got approved for the ARC (as it was one of my anticipated releases), but I was struggling a lot with this. Unfortunately, I fell with the minority who didn’t enjoy this story as much as the others. Genres: adult, epic fantasy, adventure, queer
